Kidnappers blocked Kaduna-Abuja Expressway
Kidnappers on Monday afternoon blocked the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway, forcing several motorists to abandon their vehicles and head for nearby bushes to avoid being abducted.
The development has left many motorists and passengers unaccounted for, just as their belongings were stolen by the kidnappers.
A Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria who narrowly escaped the attack reports that the incident happened a few kilometres to Katari village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State at about 3.30pm.
NAN also reports that hundreds of motorists traveling from Kaduna to Abuja, as well as those going the other way, found themselves stranded for more than 40 minutes as both lanes of the expressway were blocked by cars hastily abandoned by their owners.
NA Correspondent gathered that the bandits left the scene of the incident and moved into the bush with some of their victims before the arrival of some security men, who later cleared the road for the motorists to continue on their journeys.

I prefer to be addressed as Annie not Tubaba's wife
Star actress, Annie Idibia, has said that her year started on a rough note due to the fact that her father took ill for months.
Speaking exclusively with Saturday Beats, the screen diva revealed that her father was not always there for her siblings and her so she was raised single-handedly by her mother.
Due to that experience as a child, Idibia stated that she never prays that her children or any other kid would have to live without having both parents around to raise them.
She said, “This year started for me quite tough. I spent the first three months of this year in the hospital with my father because he had been sick for a while but God has been great and I am grateful.
“I am actually closer to my mother than my father because she raised us single-handedly. My father is still my father and since he was sick we had to rally round him.
“Growing up with only my mother really affected my life and I suffered and I do not ever want my children to face the agony of not having both parents together because it was so hard for us.
“Even right now, the way the world is, children are more enlightened than we were in our days, so the pressure would be harder on the kids from broken homes right now. I do not want my children to ever experience that.”
The actress, who is married to one of Africa’s biggest music stars, told Saturday Beats that she prefers to be addressed and identified on the basis of her own achievements as a movie practitioner rather than just the wife of Tubaba.

Buhari commissioned uncompleted projects in Lagos
Workers are still on ground at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport road in Lagos, 48 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated it.
The 10-lane road was among the projects Buhari inaugurated during his one-day working visit to the state.
However, when TheCable visited the place on Friday afternoon, construction was still ongoing at different sections.
Lip filler treatment gone wrong
Christina Burton had to be rushed to hospital after her lips started to swell and she was unable to breathe properly. She said she feared she could have died during the botched procedure which she said left her looking like a ‘duck gone wrong.’ Christina, 29, used numbing cream before the £75 procedure was administered at her home in Wythenshawe, Greater Manchester.
The beautician reportedly reassured her that swelling was normal but hours after having the 1ml of filler, the mum-of-two had to be rushed to hospital to receive adrenaline, oxygen and steroids. She said:
‘They looked like sausages on my face, I looked like a duck gone wrong. ‘My lips kept getting bigger and bigger and more painful. I thought my lips were going to explode, the pain was unreal. ‘I couldn’t swallow anything. I tried taking antihistamines and painkillers to help with the swelling and I had an ice lolly to keep them cool but they just got out of control. ‘As soon as they put the cream on I just knew something wasn’t right, my lips were tingling and felt like they were swelling up straight away. ‘When you have numbing cream on it does feel like it’s swollen because it’s numb.
‘That time I just felt something wasn’t right – my lips were swelling straight away and I was in pain, which I never usually am. ‘After she left I looked in the mirror and saw they were swollen, my throat was numb and I started struggling to swallow. ‘The swelling was that bad it went up into my nose and it closed my throat and nose. I was struggling to breathe. ‘When it got to that point I had to phone an ambulance.’ Christina has urged anyone thinking of having fillers to do their research.
Christina phoned 999 four hours after having the lip filler and an ambulance crew raced to her home.
They gave her adrenaline and put her on oxygen and rushed her to Wythenshawe Hospital, where staff gave her steroids and drugs and kept her in overnight for monitoring. She added: ‘The hospital nurses couldn’t believe how badly swollen my lips and the skin between my nose and lips were. ‘The pain felt like they were going to explode, it felt like when something has its own pulse. ‘I couldn’t open my mouth because my lips were that heavy, it was scary.’ After she was discharged, Christina shared images with close friends and family of her allergic reaction. Some people laughed thinking she had put on a filter on them.
However, when they realised it was real they were stunned – and the stay-at-home mum says one friend threw up in shock. The mum-of-two struggled to breathe and said she thought she might die (Picture: Kennedy News) Christina had the procedure done in September and her lips are now back to normal. But she has urged people to do their research before they undergo cosmetic procedures. She added: ‘It could have killed me, who would explain that to my kids? ‘I’m sharing my story in the hope that people are aware that allergic reactions can and do happen to anyone. ‘I would say to anyone thinking of getting filter to make sure it’s with someone who’s fully qualified and has had proper training, you know what products they’re using and they’re insured.’

I am not leaving APC, Yahaya Bello debunks rumour
The Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has reacted to reports that he was preparing to dump the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the governorship election in the state.
Reports had it yesterday that some top shots in the presidency had advised Bello to dump the APC for another party, ahead of the November election in the state.
Bello’s move was said to be due to his alleged misunderstandings with some top officials of the party in the state.
However, Bello’s Director-General of Media and Publicity, Kingsley Fanwo, has described the report as false.
In a statement, Fanwo said Bello’s recent declaration for second term has made his political opponents jittery.
According to Fanwo, the governor will remain in the ruling APC and fly the flag of the party during the election.
He stated that Bello’s declaration has unsettled his opponents, “many of whom had thought the party would fail and then die after the 2019 general elections in Kogi state.
“Immediately after the declaration, diaspora opposition pressed their panic button and ventured into rumor mercantile, spreading all forms of rumor.
“First, it was that the governor has not performed in office. We didn’t fight them. We only rolled out 105 verifiable achievements in 39 months of stewardship. Like the rat who saw a cat, they ran away from that sentimental infantilism.

Killings: Rev Okoh calls on the church to defend itself
The Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican communion) the Most Rev Nicholas Okoh has said that the time has come for the church to defend itself from further attacks.
Most Rev Nicholas Okoh’s statement was made in reaction to the recent bombing in Sri Lanka which led to the death of over three hundred worshipers.
Rev Okoh said, “The bomb in Sri Lanka is part of terrorism in the world, it is a coordinated effort of evil people, we pray we don’t have it again, but more importantly we should make arrangements to protect ourselves.”
In a similar vein, Reverend Okoh condemned the killing of nine members of the boys brigade in Gombe state during an Easter procession, describing it as unfortunate.
“It is unfortunate that such a thing should happen on Easter Day. It also shows that our country has not arrived, that people tolerate others.
“People are marching, showing joy, showing happiness and somebody decides to crush them and kill so many for no reason.
“We pray that we will not live like that again, and look forward to a better Nigeria; Nigeria that will be transformed, that has hope and a place for everybody, whatever your tribe.

ISIS releases picture of the suicide bombers responsible for Sri Lanka attacks
The Islamic State (ISIS) has released a picture of the “suicide bombers responsible for the Easter Sunday attacks in Sri Lanka”.
The image was released by Amaq news agency, the official mouthpiece for the group.
ISIS had earlier claimed responsibility for the suicide bombings which led to the deaths of over 300 persons, saying it targeted Christians and Sri Lanka citizens.
“Those, who carried out the attack that targeted the citizens of the coalition and Christians in Sri Lanka the day before yesterday were Islamic State fighters,” Amaq reported on Tuesday.
The picture was taken in front of an ISIS flag. There are also reports identifying Hashim as the mastermind of the attacks.
The group had previously named the bombers alongside Hashim as Abu Ubayda, Abu al-Mukhtar, Abu Khalil, Abu al-Bara’a, Abu Muhammad and Abu Abdullah.

Appeal Court sets to deliver judgment on Osun gubernatorial election
The appeal court in Abuja has reserved judgement over appeals filed by Gboyega Oyetola, governor of Osun state and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced Oyetola as winner of the September governorship election, but in March, the election tribunal declared Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as winner and asked INEC to issue a fresh certificate of return to him.
Oyetola, however, rejected the judgement, filling three appeals.
On Wednesday, the five-member panel of the appeal court reserved the judgement after the parties had adopted their final briefs of argument.
Wole Olanipekun, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and counsel to Oyetola had asked the court to withdraw the judgement of the tribunal, arguing that it was unknown to the law because Peter Obiorah, the judge who prepared and read the tribunal judgement did not participate fully during the hearing of the petition.
On its part, INEC, through Yusuf Ali, its lawyer, told the appellate court that the findings of the tribunal were not correct as they were based on unverified documents submitted by Adeleke and the PDP.
Onyechi Ikpeazu, counsel to Adeleke and the PDP, however, asked the court to dismiss the appeals.
Ikpeazu argued that Obiorah was present throughout at the tribunal except for February 6.
He begged the court to uphold the verdict of the election tribunal.
Jummai Sankey, the judge who led the appeal panel, said the judgment date for the three appeals will be made public as soon as they are ready.
Judgements are reserved after all the parties have completed their arguments and all the written submissions have been filed in the court.

Mr P slept with my wife - Diamond Platnumz
The Nigerian music industry in 2019 continues to be notorious for artistes controversies, and another one which could be the father of all music controversies that have happened in 2019 could probably be hitting the industry sooner than expected.
Tanzanian singer; Diamond Platnumz has accused former P-Square Co-member, Peter Okoye popularly known as Mr P of sleeping with his wife, Zaria. The singer revealed in an interview with his radio station, Wasafi FM that Mr P through that act, caused his marriage with Zaria to crash.
However, after making such bold revelation, Diamond’s Ex-wife has taken to social media to debunk the news, calling her ex-husband a pathological liar who once denied his own child.
She said; “I was about to sleep and people started sending me these voice notes about how Nasibo (Diamond Platnumz) went to his radio tarnishing me, how i had a relationship with P-square, my personal trainer and all those things. And i’m just here thinking if you guys are gonna believe any words that come from a man like him, the same man who denied his own blood.
“If you all are gonna believe anything he say, then you all are just stupid just like him.”
Mr P is married to Lola Okoye who has bore two kids Cameron & Aliona for him. He is however yet to give a response to the accusation by Diamond, but we hope he does that quickly so this wouldn’t facilitate the end of his marriage.
ASUU fires Aisha over proposed Muhammadu Buhari University
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has taken a jab at Aisha Buhari for stating her plans to establish a private university in her husband’s name.
NAN had reported that the wife of the president was planning to establish a new private university to be called Muhammadu Buhari University.
Responding to the disclosure, Deji Omole, ASUU Chairman, University of Ibadan, and Ademola Aremu, former National Treasurer of the Union, told newsmen that this is a joke taken too far.
“When I also heard about the proposed private university to be named after Mr President, I just looked at it as a joke taken too far,” Omole said.
“If we have a president in a country that has simply refused to fund public education and all we get from the family of the first lady is to establish a private university in collaboration with some foreigners, to me I think it is a disaster for this country and for a sitting president.
“The implication is that Nigerians should know that this leadership does not believe in public-funded education. Nigerians should support the struggle for the government to take education as a core investment upon which this country will be liberated.
“It is not the children of the rich that will solve the problems of Nigeria but the children of the poor and the tool they need is quality education.”
Aremu said he does not think the first lady is serious, adding that Nigeria already has “proliferation of universities and they are not taken care of”.
“Since they are policy makers, they will now formulate policies that will ground public universities aground for their interest to thrive. I thought we have actually left that era.
“I could remember that Obasanjo established Bells and we condemned it. Atiku established his own as Former Vice President. If you have private interest, you should not hold public office.
“If you have interest in anything private, I think it is proper to actually leave the public space for those who want to eager to serve the masses. How many people can afford the existing private universities existing in the country?
“If you want to help education, then increase the capacity of the existing ones. When you are holding a public office, don’t establish a private concern. She should wait until Buhari is completely out of office before thinking of bringing a private university in whatever name.”
We have enough doctors, those who want to go abroad can go - Nigige
Chris Ngige, minister of labour, says there is nothing wrong with doctors leaving Nigeria as the country has “more than enough” medical personnel.
Speaking during a Channels TV programme on Wednesday, the minister defended the doctors searching for green pastures elsewhere, saying “if you have surplus, you export.”
Ngige’s comment comes weeks after Saudi officials stormed Nigeria to recruit medical doctors, an opportunity that was highly sought for.
One of the programme anchors had asked him if he was worried about the rate doctors leave Nigeria to which he responded: “No, I am not worried (about doctors leaving the country). We have surplus. If you have surplus, you export.
“It happened some years ago here. I was taught chemistry and biology by Indian teachers in my secondary school days.
“There are surplus in their country and we also have surplus in the medical profession in our country. I can tell you this. In my area, we have excess.
“Who said we don’t have enough doctors? We have more than enough. You can quote me. There is nothing wrong in them travelling out.”
Ngige, who himself is a doctor, added that the medical personnel relocating from Nigeria also contribute to the country’s foreign exchange earnings, and that some of them do set up medical centres back home.
He said: “When they go abroad, they earn money and send them back home here. Yes, we have foreign exchange earnings from them and not just oil.
“Will you call that brain drain? I know a couple of them who practise abroad but set up medical centres back home. They have CAT scan, MRI scan which even the government cannot maintain. So, I don’t see any loss.”
HOW TRUE IS THE MINISTER’S STATEMENT?
Statistics from the World Health Organisation (WHO) showed that as of 2013, there were 3.8 doctors for every 10,000 Nigerians, far below the organisations’s recommendation of one doctor to 600 patients.
Recent data from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) also showed that as of December 2017, Nigeria had 39,912 registered medical doctors. This means with a population of 193 million in 2016, there was just one medical doctor for every 4,845 Nigerians.

Man sets ex girlfriend's family members ablaze for breaking up with him
A man, Deji Adenuga, a.k.a. Dakar, on Tuesday allegedly set eight family members of his estranged girlfriend ablaze on Adetuwo Street, Igbodigo town, in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that five of the victims had given up the ghost, while three others were receiving treatment at the Trauma Centre, Ondo town, Ondo State.
A source told our correspondent that Adenuga was dating a girl in the family, identified only as Titi; but she later called off the relationship.
In retaliation, the suspect was alleged to have set the room where the family lived ablaze.
The source said, “What happened today (Tuesday) was shocking. The man (Adenuga) almost wiped out an entire family early this morning.
“He was angry because the girl (Titi) he was dating said she was no more interested in the relationship. In order to deal with the girl, he poured petrol in the room where all members of her family were sleeping and set them ablaze.
“He actually missed his target because the girl was not in the room at the time he set the room ablaze.
“Eight members of the family were severely burnt. Five of them have been confirmed dead, while the remaining three were rushed to the Trauma Centre, Ondo, where they are receiving treatment.”
The source noted that the suspect fled the town after the act, adding that his whereabouts was unknown to residents.

A Texas couple sentenced for enslaving a young girl for 16 years
(CNN) — When she arrived in the US, the West African girl was just five years old, but she soon was responsible for caring for a Texas couple's children, cooking, cleaning and mowing the lawn. She was abused and neglected for 16 years -- until she escaped, according to a criminal complaint against the couple.
The pair has now been sentenced to seven years each in prison and nearly $300,000 in restitution, according to a Monday news release from the Justice Department.
Mohamed Toure, 58, and Denise Cros-Toure, 58, were convicted in January of forced labor, conspiracy to harbor an alien and alien harboring.
They both are citizens of Guinea -- where the young girl was taken from -- and lawful permanent residents of the US, but may lose their US immigration status and be deported to Guinea, the Justice Department said.
"I hope that today's sentence brings some measure of justice and healing to the victim, who suffered untold trauma as a result of the defendants' heinous crimes," Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband said in a news release. "The defendants stole her childhood and her labor for years, enriching themselves while leaving her with pain and an uncertain future."
The couple had faced a maximum sentence of 20 years for forced labor, 10 years for conspiracy to commit alien harboring, and 5 years for alien harboring.
An attorney for Toure said the couple was pleased with the lighter sentence, but maintain that the girl's story was fabricated.
Leaving home
Investigators claim the young girl initially lived in a one-room, mud hut with her family in Guinea. She was still young when her father, who worked as a farmer, urged her to go into the city to work. She soon began working for Cros-Toure's family in Guinea, according to the complaint.
In January 2000, the young girl -- who was not named in the criminal complaint -- was flown to the Toure residence in Southlake, where her first job was to care for the couple's youngest son, who was about two years old at the time, the 2018 complaint says. She did not speak English when she arrived and was not enrolled in school.
Girl alleges years of abuse
The child's workload eventually increased to include cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, mowing the lawn and gardening. Her day began around 7 a.m., when the couple's children left for school and continued until they went to sleep at night, the complaint says.
She didn't eat with the couple and their five children and slept on the floor, investigators said. The couple kept her at home, isolated her, forced her to do housework and care for their children with no pay and made sure she was entirely dependent on them, according to the criminal complaint.
Scott Palmer, Cros-Toure's attorney, says the couple didn't pay the girl for her work because she was like family.
"They didn't pay her, but you don't pay family members to clean your own house," he said. "She lived there, like anyone else did." He said that the couple wanted to adopt the girl.
But the Department of Justice says the couple "physically, emotionally and verbally punished her," each time she disobeyed them or "did not perform the required labor to their liking."
They would call her a "dog," a "slave," "worthless" and an idiot, the Justice Department said in Monday's news release, citing evidence presented at the couple's trial. They choked her, whipped her, sometimes pulled on her hair -- and other times shaved it, the Justice Department said.
Toure's attorney, Brady T. Watt III said those stories were fabricated in the girl's attempt to stay in the US. Watt told CNN, the girl made the claims after her family asked that she be returned to Guinea.
"We know why this came about because this was her route to get a T-Visa," Watt said. "She wasn't a slave. She was charting runs on her Fitbit, doing modeling shoots."
She escaped after 16 years
By the summer of 2016, the girl had confided to people who knew Cros-Toure and Toure about the abuse and had tried to run away, but she was always returned home, according to the criminal complaint.
In August of that year, with the help of a few former neighbors, she waited until Cros-Toure was gone from the house, and fled, taking with her a duffel bag, a backpack and her travel documents.
"Forced labor trafficking cases are notoriously difficult to prosecute -- in part because victims are often afraid to speak out," US Attorney Erin Nealy Cox said in a news release. "I want to commend her, as well as the witnesses who helped shine a light on her circumstances."
"If we want to wipe out human trafficking, we need to remind witnesses to speak up, and ask the community to remain alert."
Zlatan Ibile beaten by rival cult gang
Rave of the moment, Zlatan Ibile was rescued yesterday by soldiers when he was being beaten by alleged rival cultists at Ogun state yesterday.
The singer who is currently on a campus tour, took a stop at the Gateway Polytechnic in Ogun state to perform as it was one of the places enlisted on his tour.
It is being reported that trouble started at the venue of his performance after the singer arrived late for his performance. It was further gathered that what eventually caused the chaos which allowed Zlatan to be attacked was the fact that he wore on his head a beret that floats the awareness of his alleged cult group, Aiye.
Irritated by the singer’s nerve, a rival cult member reported to be named Ronaldo, climbed on stage, removed the beret from his head and gave him a fierce attack before soldiers intervened and whisked him away.
This won’t be the first time Zlatan would be surviving an attack that has to do with a fraternity issue after he was did at DJ Kaywise’s Joor Concert in Abesan, Lagos

JAMB launches #10YearsChallenge
Heads are set to roll across the country as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has launched a probe into the credentials of applicants dating back to 2009.
This implies that persons who cheated the system to pass the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination to get into school and may have even graduated and participated in the National Youth Service Corps will be arrested and their certificates withdrawn.
The Head, Media and Information of JAMB, Fabian Benjamin, said this during an interview with The PUNCH on Monday.
Benjamin said the probe had begun and it would be completed in record time as JAMB has acquired software which would be able to identify fake biometric data.
Speaking in a separate interview on 95.1 Nigeria Info FM Abuja, the JAMB spokesman said, “We want to do what we call biometric verification dating back to 10 years.
“Even if you are now working and we discovered that someone wrote exams for you, we will publish your name and the law agencies will do the needful.
“We have the biometrics from 10 years ago. We will compare the photos with thumbprints and names.
“We discovered that a candidate could have written exams with 30 different names.”
Explaining how impersonation takes place, Benjamin added, “This is how they operate: My name is Fabian Benjamin, but I will register as Abdullahi Musa and write exams for Abdullahi Musa; but I will use Fabian Benjamin’s picture and biometric data; only the name will be different.
“I will register as John David, as Austin Steven. I will register in the name of anyone that pays me, write exams for that person, but I will use my picture.

Second judge withdraws from Okorocha's certificate of return suit
The second judge has withdrawn from a suit filed by the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, seeking an order compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission to issue him a certificate of return as the senator-elect for Imo West.
The development came barely a week after the first judge, Justice Taiwo Taiwo, of the Federal High Court in Abuja, withdrew from the case.
The PUNCH gathered on Monday that after Justice Taiwo withdrew from the case on April 10, it was reassigned to Justice Okon Abang also of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Justice Abang was said to have on April 11 fixed April 18 for hearing in the suit.
But on the date fixed for the hearing, Justice Abang announced his decision to withdraw from the suit.
His decision was anchored on Okorocha’s letter to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Adamu Abdu-Kafarati, asking for the transfer of the case to another judge.
The governor, in the letter, was said to have sought the transfer of the case to another judge because opponents in the case were jubiliating that Justice Abang would dismiss the case.
The judge, upon seeing the letter in the file, immediately informed parties of his withdrawal from the suit.
Justice Taiwo had earlier withdrawn from the suit following allegations of bias levelled against him by two parties to the suit.
INEC had refused to certificate of return to Okorocha on the basis that the Returning Officer for the February 23 election, Prof Francis Ibeawuchi, said he declared the outgoing governor winner of the senatorial election under duress.

Olajumoke parts ways with husband
Reports have it that the former bread seller-turn-model, Olajumoke has parted ways with her husband who has struggled to get a job in the past three years.
Also the model has changed her name and will no longer bear Olajumoke Orisaguna but now goes by the name Olajumoke Chris.
Feelers have it that Chris is not her father’s name but since she needed a male sounding name as a last name and also a trendy sounding name to go with her new brand she has chosen to be called, Olajumoke Chris for now.
You will recall that Olajumoke and her (now ex) husband ran into a rancour into who is the boss of their home and how Olajumoke has allegedly turned him into a house husband.
The estranged husband claimed that since Olajumoke broke into limelight, she became rude, while he also accused her of infidelity.
In an interview with Punchng.com , Olajumoke denied all the allegations made by her husband.

“Anybody can say whatever pleases them with their mouth. He is the one that has been spreading such stories. When a man knows everything about you, he can choose to do whatever with that information. As for me, I am okay and there is nothing wrong with me.”
“Whatever is going on is known to God. We are still together. He has never discussed all what he has been saying outside with me, so I don’t understand what he is driving at because we sleep in the same house.
“Well, he can continue saying whatever pleases him but I will not say anything bad about him. There is nobody I will discuss his matter with; I just leave him to God. God will judge between us
Presiding officers: We transmitted official results directly to INEC servers
Atiku: Buhari didn’t submit any academic certificate
About 13 Presiding Officers (POs) in Borno and Yobe states have told the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja that they transmitted the results of the February 23 Presidential election in their various units and wards to the official server of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The POs in their respective Witness Statement of Oath in support of the petition filed by the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, challenging the election of President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress (APC), stated that the election body had, during their training, instructed them on how to transmit the results to its server.
The submission of the POs was to lay credence to the petition of Atiku and PDP, wherein they alleged that the INEC pulled down the official results from its server and consequently replaced it with a doctored one to favour President Buhari. The position of the POs, however, contradicted the submission of INEC who had stated in its reply to the petition that results were not sent to its server. All these were, however, contained in Atiku’s reply to the objection filed by APC, who is the 3rd respondent, to his (Atiku’s) petition before the Presidential tribunal, wherein he is challenging the election that produced Buhari.
INEC had declared President Buhari as the winner of the February 23 election, having polled 15,191,847 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Atiku, who polled 11,262,978. But, Atiku in his 139- page petition before the tribunal stated that from the data in INEC’s server, the true, actual and correct results showed that he (Atiku) secured a total of 18,356,732 votes against Buhari’s 16,741,430 votes. On its part, INEC stated that there was no result in its server and that the presidential election results were not transmitted electronically. However, in reaction to paragraph 29 of the 3rd Respondent’s reply, the petitioners aver that the data and scores in the 1st Respondent’s Server were as transmitted by the 1st Respondent’s officials and those scores are valid, and legitimate. Atiku, through his team of counsel, led by Dr. Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), had listed about 13 Presiding Officers from different wards in Borno State and also attached their witness statement on oath. According to one of the POs, “I was employed as an ad hoc staff and trained for three days by the 1st Respondent at the Government College, Maiduguri, Bomo State to serve as a Presiding Officer (PO) at Waliri Polling Unit with Code 003, of Shehun Barna Ward, Bomo State on the 23rd February, 2019 Presidential and National Assembly (Senate and House of Representatives) elections. ”
The training covered the duties of all 1st Respondent’s ad-hoc staff at the polling units and the procedure for the conduct of election which includes accreditation, verification, authentication, collation and transmission of results as well as the use of Smart Card Reader (SCR), amongst others. “At the 1st Respondent training, we were specifically instructed that the use of the Smart Card Reader for accreditation, verification, authentication, collation and transmission of results is mandatory and that any election conducted without the use of the Smart Card Reader would be invalid.
“I took part in the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly (Senate and House of Representatives) elections of 23rd February, 2019 where I served as the Presiding Officer (PO) and I ensured the use of the Smart Card Reader for accreditation, verification, authentication, collation and transmission of votes in my polling unit. “At the end of voting, the information on the Smart Card Reader with the results inclusive, were collated by me in the presence of the party agents and other ad-hoc staff of the 1st Respondent after which my Assistant Presiding Officer (AP0-1) transmitted the result electronically in my presence to the 1st Respondent’s server, using the Smart Card Reader (SCR) and the code provided by the 1st Respondent.”
Furthermore, in the witness statements of the Presiding Officer of Daza Primary School Code 001,Daze Marte Ward of Borno State, who was coded as BU; the Presiding Officer of Mustapha Ali Bama, Code 036, Mafoni MCC Ward, who was coded IM; the Presiding Officer of Binkalion Code 003, Maisandari Damaturu ward Yobe, coded as AB and APO of Kafan Sarki Code 007, Yabir-Gujba of Yobe state, coded as AW; they all admitted that the results of the Presidential election were transmitted electronically to INEC’s server. In a similar development, Atiku had insisted that Buhari did not submit any academic certificate to INEC before contesting in the February 23 election.
He added that the claim of APC that Buhari was eminently qualified to contest the election to the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is spurious and devoid of substance as Buhari never submitted any certificates to INEC regarding his educational qualification. According to him, “Having not submitted any certificate to the 1st Respondent (INEC) regarding his educational qualification, the 2nd Respondent (Buhari) did not and could not have complied with the requirement of the law regarding qualification for election to the office of the President. “The question of the 1st Respondent being satisfied with the information and materials submitted to it by the 2nd Respondent with respect to the qualification of the latter did not arise because the 2nd Respondent did not submit any certificate.
“The claim of the 3rd Respondent at paragraph 498 of its reply that the declaration sworn to by the 2nd Respondent before Commissioner for Oaths at the Federal Capital Territory High Court Registry on 8th October, 2018 as being distinct and separate from the general form of affidavit explaining the whereabouts/location of 2nd Respondent’s academic qualification documents is utterly ridiculous especially as both documents were submitted to the 1st Respondent by the 2nd Respondent simultaneously and without factual backup by any known certificate of qualification of the 2nd Respondent.
“The issue of qualification of the 2nd Respondent to contest election to the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a mandatory statutory and/or Constitutional requirement that cannot be waived by the petitioners as erroneously averred in paragraph 499 (d) of the 3rd Respondent’s reply.” Atiku, however, challenged Buhari to produce the originals or Certified True Copies of his purported certificates obtained from Elementary School, Daura and Mai’adua, Middle School, Katsina and Katsina Provincial Secondary School and all other institutions pleaded in paragraphs 500 and 501 of 3rd Respondent’s reply.
Atiku further added that his petition is competent and meritorious and the return of the 2nd Respondent by the 1st Respondent is undue and wrongful. He added that the 3rd Respondent’s reply does not answer the points of substance in the petition, but same is full of extraneous facts, contradictory, diversionary, evasive, speculative and vague assertions.
The former vice president also stated that he is a bona fide Nigerian. “Contrary to the allegations contained in paragraphs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the 3rd Respondent’s reply, the petitioners state that the 1st petitioner is a citizen of Nigeria by birth and thus qualified to vote and be voted for and returned in the election to the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, held on Saturday 23rd February, 2019 going by the relevant provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). “That all averments concerning Germany, British Cameroons, League of Nations and Plebiscite are false and misleading in relation to the 1st Petitioner and, therefore, completely irrelevant more so that the 1st Petitioner is a Nigerian by birth within the contemplation of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended). “The averments in the aforesaid paragraphs are indeed fabricated, contrived, made in bad faith and designed to embarrass the 1st Petitioner,” Atiku said.

Arsenal bid for Isco
Arsenal have made an offer for Real Madrid and Spain midfielder Isco, whilst Manchester City have reportedly withdrawn from the race for the player.
Isco has had a torrid season with Real this year, and it looks as if the player may need to seal a move elsewhere in order to reignite his career.
And it seems like one of the Spaniard’s potential destinations could be Arsenal, who are said to have submitted a €60M (£51M) offer for the midfielder as per Don Balon.
The report from Don Balon also states that Man City, as well as Juventus, have withdrawn from the race for the player, news that’ll sure be music to both Arsenal and Unai Emery’s ears.
Isco has been largely in and out of Real’s starting XI this year, something that could be down to the Spaniard’s inconsistent form.
Arsenal talisman Mesut Ozil has really struggled for form this year, and bringing in Isco could be the move the Gunners need to address issues in midfield.

60m Nigerians are illiterates
Sonny Echono, permanent secretary, federal ministry of education, says nearly 60 million Nigerians are illiterates, assuring that literacy centres will reduce the high percentage of illiteracy in the country.
Echono disclosed this on Thursday at the federal government college Otobi, during the inauguration of a pilot literacy centre for the north-central zone.
The permanent secretary expressed regret that the illiteracy rate among the youth and adults is high, saying that the literacy level at the lower cadre of the colleges is also alarming.
According to him, literacy centres to be established in 104 federal government colleges (FGCs) are aimed at reducing the high rate of illiteracy at the low cadre of the staff of the institutions.
He stressed that the federal government designed the literacy programme to cater for them and others in the host communities.
He said literacy was both a social and human rights issue and called on the learners at the pilot centre to remain committed and take their studies with all seriousness.
According to him, the essence of the scheme is to fit into the sustainable development goals (SDGs) especially SDG number four which highlights inclusive and equitable quality education and promotion of long learning opportunities.
He explained that the programme would equip its beneficiaries with literacy and numeracy skills to be able to handle challenges of life.
Stephen Ojo, an officer from the office of the senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, on SDGs, commended the foresight of the education ministry in designing the programme and promised to provide technical support to the ministry towards its success.
He emphasised that the scheme would help build capacities and skills of all the participants.
Amudipe Gabriel, the principal of the school, commended the permanent secretary for his doggedness in ensuring that the programme began in earnest and for making his school the centre in the zone.
Abisode Olayiwola, the coordinator of the programme, in an interview with NAN, said the response from learners in the school and host community far exceeded the instructional materials made available.
“We targeted 40 learners but what we had was twice that number. We are impressed by the turnout. We will make arrangements for all of them,” the coordinator added.

Nigerian court nullifies police marriage permit
_Female Cops Can Now Marry Without Permission From The Nigeria Police Force_
The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has declared illegal and unconstitutional the provision of the Police Act, which prohibits a woman police officer from marrying a man of her choice without the permission of the Commissioner of Police in the command where she is serving. This was sequel to the suit filed by the Women Empowerment and Legal Aid Initiative (WELA) challenging the constitutional validity of Regulation 124 made pursuant to the Police Act (Cap P19 ) Laws of the Federation of Nigeria which states:
“A woman Police Officer who is desirous of marrying must first apply in writing to the Commissioner of Police for the State Command in which she is serving, requesting permission to marry and giving name, address and occupation of the person she intends to marry. Permission will be granted for the marriage if the intended husband is of good character and the woman police officer has served in the force for a period of not less than three years.”
In her submissions the WELA Executive Director, Mrs. Funmi Falana had argued that it was illegal to ban a woman police officer for three years before entering into a marriage and that seeking permission of a Police Commissioner is an infraction of her fundamental right to dignity and freedom of choice. She further contended that since a male police officer is not subjected to the same inhibitions Regulation 124 is inconsistent with section 42 of the Constitution and Article 2 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights which have prohibited discrimination on the basis of sex.
Mrs. Falana urged the Federal High Court to expunge Regulation 124 from the Police Act as it is not reasonably justifiable in a democratic State like Nigeria which has domesticated the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights and ratified the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and People Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
In his reply the Attorney-General of the Federation through his Counsel, Mr. B.R. Ashiru maintained that Regulation 124 is designed to protect women police officers from falling into the hands of criminals. It was his submission that the purpose of the law is to prevent women police officers from marrying men of bad character. He also defended the 3-year ban on the ground that it is meant to ensure that a woman police officer is not pregnant “during the rigorous training she must undergo after her employment”.
In his judgment the trial judge completely rejected the arguments of the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation. While upholding the submissions of Mrs. Falana the Judge held that Regulation 124 was illegal, null and void due to its inconsistency with Section 42 of the Constitution. Having declared it unconstitutional the judge proceeded to annul Regulation 124 by virtue of Section 1(3) of the Constitution.

To avoid being killed by SARS, don't speak Queens English, speak pidgin - ACP Shogunle
An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Yomi Shogunle, on Wednesday, April 17, said that another way of avoiding being killed by Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is not to speak Queens English to police officers. He said this in a tweet quoting, Tunji Dunsi's video where he was addressing members of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS)
Recall that Legit.ng earlier reported that the commander of the RRS, Disu, advised officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos on the need to be good ambassadors of the force. Disu said that he is very much concerned about the issue of police killings that have been going on around in the country. The commander said the matter is so worse that he believes his officers should be ashamed of even putting their uniform to go around town. He said that the officers should be careful about the firearms they carry around, that the same arms were purchased for them with the money gotten from the public. Disu then asked why kill the people who are paying them and whose money financed their arms.
The RSS commander reminded the officers of a very important lesson they were taught in the police academy, that it is better to let robbers escape than kill one innocent person. He also lamented that a few members of the force are spoiling the image of the police, questioning the need to carry corked guns around people.
Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that a Nigerian football lover identified as Kolade Johnson was killed on Sunday, March 31, after he was hit by a police officer's stray bullet during a raid in Lagos.

Buhari's online supporter jailed for criticising his government
A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, sitting in Maitama on Monday sentenced a social media activist, Ibrahim Wala, popularly known as IG Wala, to 12 years imprisonment.
Mr Wala, a social media activist, was arraigned following a petition filed by the chairman of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, Abdullahi Mukhtar.
The NAHCON boss alleged that Mr Wala used his Facebook page to incite the public against him and defame him and that of the commission.
Passing the judgement, Justice Yusuf Halilu found Mr Wala guilty on three of the four count charges filed against him by the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General of the Federation.
The three charges for which he was found guilty included unlawful assembly, public incitement and criminal defamation of character.
The judge, however, dismissed the charge of criminal intimidation for lack of merit.
On the charge of unlawful assembly, Mr Wala was found guilty of using an unregistered organisation, the Citizens Action To Take Back Nigeria, CATBAN, to form unlawful assembly.
On Count 2, Mr Wala was sentenced to seven years, while on Counts 3 and 4, the activist bagged three and two years respectively.
The judge said the prosecution “has been able to establish the offense of making an unlawful assembly”
The court also found Mr Wala guilty of public incitement, an offense contrary to section 114 penal code which deals with the breach of public peace.
Mr Yusuf also agreed with the prosecution that Mr Wala criminally defamed the chairman of NAHCON after he alleged that the NAHCON boss “made N3 billion for himself” from the 2017 Hajj operations.
The judge said Mr Wala wrote on his Facebook page that he has documents to prove the allegation.
He however, said the activist failed to provide the document to prove his claims in court.
“Where is the document proving N3bn made by chairman hajj commission?
“Why has the accused person failed to tender such document now that he has been dragged before a court of law?,” the judge asked.
He said by his inability to provide relevant documents to prove his “huge allegations”, Mr Wala “has made the case of the prosecution less cumbersome”.
He therefore sentenced Mr Wala to 12 years imprisonment, which will run concurrently, without option of fine.

Those who scream "Jesus" during sex will all go to hell - Prophet Kumchacha
Controversial Ghanaian prohpet, Prophet Kumchacha has revealed that any woman who screams the name of God or Jesus Christ while making love will end up in hell.
Prophet Kumchacha who is the leader and founder of Heaven’s Gate Ministry said that, whether the woman is making love with her husband or boyfriend, once the person screams the name of Jesus Christ during the act, she will not miss hell.
“Whether you are making the love with your husband or your boyfriend, once you scream the name of Jesus Christ while in the act there is no way you will not go to hell”, he revealed during a live television discussion on UTV.
According to him, specially trained angels will subject you to all forms of severe beatings on judgment day before throwing you into hell because shouting the name Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit under such instances constitutes a grievous punishable by being thrown into hell.
“God is not his personal property it is the omnipresent God we all know. Read Exodus 21:1-7 it says you should not mention the name of God in vain. So while being romanced if you are mentioning the name like that you commit a big sin. If care is not taken you could be flogged one day by invisible hands while in the act”, he added.
