Bank worker arrested for diverting N3.4m from customer's account

The police have arrested a marketing agent of a commercial bank in Matori, Mushin area of Lagos State, for allegedly diverting the savings of one of the bank’s customers.

The money, which belongs to one Rose Okoye, was estimated at N3,441,000. The suspect, Fatiu Mohammed, reportedly transferred the sum to another bank account.

City Round learnt that the suspect, Mohammed, perpetrated the alleged fraud on December 14, 2018 after he snapped the account details of the customer from the computer screen of his colleague, who is an account officer.

It was gathered that Okoye complained to the bank when she discovered the fraud and petitioned the police at the Area D Command, Mushin.

58 guber candidates step down for Wike

At least, 58 governorship candidates in Rivers State on Friday said they would work for the re-election of the State Governor, Nyesom Wike, in the forthcoming poll.

This came just as the candidates alleged an ongoing plot by the All Progressives Congress and the Independent National Electoral Commission to disrupt the March 9, 2019 governorship election in the state.

They spoke through their Chairman, Pastor Samuel Ihunwo, during a solidarity visit to the governor at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

“We observed that our people were killed by the military. We have come for a solidarity visit because as the father of the state, you are pained by what is happening. We condemn in totality, the unwarranted killings by the military,” he said.

Responding, Rivers State Governor,  Nyesom Wike, stated that no one man born of woman could determine the political destiny of Rivers State.

He said, “If we rely on the security agencies, by now, we will not be here. Only God protects us in Rivers State.

“If you see the connivance between the APC and the security agencies,  you will marvel how we have gone so low. The security agencies aiding individuals to perpetrate crime; it is unfortunate.

Oshiomhole has thrown his senses to the wind - Okorocha

Two days after President Muhammadu Buhari was declared the winner of Nigeria’s presidential election, the cracks within his party have again come to the fore.

Mr Buhari is considered a rallying point for diverse interests within the APC. All interests within the party worked together for his victory.

However, some officials of the party, including two of its governors had declared they would support candidates of other parties for governorship and state assembly elections in their states.

On Friday afternoon, the APC announced the suspension of the two governors, Rochas Okorocha of Imo and Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun.

PREMIUM TIMES reported how the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC suspended the two governors after a meeting.

Two others suspended were the Niger Delta minister, Usani Usani, and the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, Osita Okechukwu.

The NWC also recommended the expulsion of the governors and the presidential appointees from the ruling party in a recommendation sent to APC national executive committee, the party’s highest decision-making organ, for ratification.

All four suspended officials are known allies of Mr Buhari who played controversial roles during the presidential campaign rally in Ogun and Imo. In both states, Mr Buhari made statements that suggested he was asking party supporters to vote for the governorship and state assembly candidates of their choice irrespective of the party.

Messrs Amosun and Okorocha have had running battles with the party leadership after their preferred candidates for the upcoming governorship and state assembly elections were rejected by the APC.

Both governors, who won senatorial seats on the APC platform last Saturday, are now backing their preferred candidates who defected to other parties.

Okorocha Reacts
In reacting to his suspension, Mr Okorocha said the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, has ‘thrown caution to the wind’ in his politicking.

He said the chairman is working to destroy the party in the South-east zone.

Mr Okorocha made his position known in a statement sent to Punch newspaper.

My second term will be tougher, Buhari tells Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that his second term in office may be tougher than the first.

The president said this on Friday when he received members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on a congratulatory visit to him at the council chamber of the State House Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“My last lap of four years, I think is going to be tough. People are very forgetful and that’s why during the campaign I spoke about our cardinal agenda,” he said.

Mr Buhari said he had to constantly remind Nigerians of his pledge to ensure security, a robust economy by providing employment to able-bodied youth and tackling corruption.

Father of slain INEC ad hoc staff lay curses on soldiers, politicians responsible for her death

The 61-year-old man, who posted a photo of his daughter, wrote, “Here lies my beautiful daughter Ibisaki, a post-graduate degree holder, full of cheer, love and kindness and mother of two. She was shot dead yesterday by a trigger happy and jittery soldier while she was on a national assignment with INEC.

“I have never arranged for the death of any youth. I hate violence and thuggery. If law enforcement agents have to kill an enemy, should it be my responsible and peaceful daughter? It is well. Only God knows why it happened. He will surely repay the wicked.”

Resurrection priest blames former dead man, denies having such powers

Alleluia Ministries church pastor Alph Lukau, who is said to have resurrected a man who was in a coffin at the weekend, has said the man was already alive when he arrived at the church.

Speaking to Gauteng broadcaster PowerFM's Power Drive host Thabiso Tema on Wednesday evening, Lukau said he was busy with a sermon on Sunday when he was interrupted and told that a person in a coffin had been brought to the church.

"Before entering the premises of the church, the coffin began to shake, meaning the person was alive,” Lukau explained.

He said when they heard that the man in the coffin was alive, they began to pray for him, made him stand and ushered him inside the church.

Lawal Gumau, as directed earlier by a court of law.

He said the PDP candidate, Alhaji Garba Dahiru, came second with 175,527 votes, while Lawal Ibrahim of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), placed third, with 43,386 votes, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. The returning officer said candidates of 18 political parties contested for the senatorial seat in the zone.

Commenting on the development, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state , Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, explained that APC had failed to substitute a candidate for the poll as ordered by the court. According to him, the candidature of Senator Gumau representing the district, was nullified by a court, prior to the election, with an order that the party should substitute the candidate. He said that up till the time of the conduct of the election, the party had failed to obey the court order, as such Gumau could not be returned as winner of the election. Bauchi South district comprises of Toro, Dass, Tafawa-Balewa, Alkaleri, Kirfi,Bogoro and Bauchi local government areas.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that a Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier ordered that Gumau be substituted with another candidate, Ibrahim Zailani, who had challenged the outcome of the APC primaries in the state.
